SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH & Complex Behaviour Support
Location: Colindale, NW London
Salary: £95 – £100 Daily
Job Type: Full-Time
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
We are seeking a confident, patient and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support two primary-aged pupils, one in Year 1 and one in Year 5, who have significant Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Both pupils can present with highly challenging behaviours, including episodes of aggression. We are therefore looking for someone with proven experience supporting children with complex behavioural needs who can remain calm under pressure, respond appropriately to challenging situations and build positive, trusting relationships.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional regulation and achieve their full potential in a supportive educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored one-to-one support to pupils with significant SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Respond calmly, consistently and appropriately to challenging behaviour, including incidents of aggression.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, emotional regulation and positive outcomes.
- Support pupils in accessing learning and participating in school activities.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and follow individual pupil plans.
- Promote a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, the SEN team and other professionals.
- Monitor pupils’ progress and communicate relevant observations to the wider team.
Experience working in a primary school, specialist provision, alternative provision or a similar setting would be advantageous.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who understands that challenging behaviour can be a form of communication and who can respond with patience, empathy and consistency. The ideal candidate will be confident in setting boundaries while developing positive relationships and helping pupils feel safe, understood and supported.
This role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, SEMH Support Worker or Behaviour Support Assistant who is ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with complex needs.
How to Apply
If you have the relevant experience, confidence and commitment to support pupils with significant SEMH needs, we would love to hear from you.
Please submit your application outlining your relevant experience and why you would be suitable for this role.
