Ortus Recruitment is recruiting for an enthusiastic and caring Unqualified Teaching Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Acton, Ealing.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Graduate, aspiring teacher, youth worker, mentor or childcare professional looking to gain valuable experience in a primary school.
The successful candidate will provide 1:1 SEN support to a Year 1 pupil, helping them access the curriculum, engage in classroom activities and develop their confidence, independence and social skills.
About the SEN Teaching Assistant Role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the Year 1 class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide consistent learning and pastoral support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with SEN
- Supporting the pupil to access the primary school curriculum
- Helping with reading, writing, phonics and other classroom activities
- Providing learning support and additional guidance
- Encouraging positive behaviour and classroom engagement
- Supporting emotional wellbeing, confidence and independence
- Helping the pupil develop their communication and social skills
- Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO
- Supporting behaviour management and positive routines
- Providing support during break and lunchtime when required
- Helping create a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment
Who We’re Looking For
The school is looking for a patient, caring and reliable Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
You will ideally have:
- Experience working with children or young people
- An interest in SEN and primary education
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm and patient approach
- The ability to build positive relationships with children
- A proactive and positive attitude
- A genuine interest in supporting children’s learning and development
Previous school or SEN experience is desirable but not essential. Experience in childcare, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, sports coaching, volunteering or similar environments will also be considered.
