About the Rainbow Room

The Rainbow Room is a dedicated SEN provision within the mainstream primary school, supporting approximately 8 pupils from EYFS through to Year 6. The children have a range of high-level and complex additional needs, meaning no two days are the same.

The successful candidate will work closely with the school’s SEN team to provide a safe, supportive and engaging environment where every child is encouraged to develop their communication, independence, social skills and confidence.

The Role

As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of high-level SEN.
  • Support children’s learning, development and engagement throughout the school day.
  • Help implement individual learning and support plans.
  • Encourage communication, independence and positive social interaction.
  • Support pupils with their emotional regulation and behaviour where required.
  • Assist with personal care and other practical needs where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and other professionals.
  • Help create a calm, structured and nurturing environment within the Rainbow Room.
  • Support pupils to access activities and opportunities across the wider mainstream school.

About You

The school is looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting children with SEN.
  • Patient, calm, empathetic and nurturing.
  • Confident supporting pupils with complex or high-level additional needs.
  • Able to build positive and trusting relationships with children.
  • Resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • A strong communicator who works well as part of a team.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt their approach to meet individual children’s needs.
  • Experienced in an SEN setting or passionate about developing their SEN experience.

Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, communication needs, sensory needs, complex learning difficulties or challenging behaviour would be advantageous, although applications from candidates with transferable experience will also be considered.

Why Join This School?

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a supportive mainstream primary school where pupils with additional needs are valued and encouraged to achieve their potential.

You will be joining a dedicated SEN team and working within a specialist provision where you can make a genuine difference to the lives of children and their families.

If you are caring, enthusiastic and passionate about helping children with additional needs thrive, we would love to hear from you.
