A friendly primary school in Wandsworth is seeking a dedicated Graduate Teaching Assistant to join its team as soon as possible. This full-time opportunity is ideal for a graduate who wants to develop practical classroom experience, build confidence working with pupils, and gain an insight into life within a primary school. You will be supported by experienced teaching staff and will play an important role in helping pupils engage with their learning and make progress.
The Opportunity
Working primarily with pupil with additional needs, you will assist teachers with day-to-day classroom learning and provide additional support to pupils who may benefit from extra guidance.
Your responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of the class, giving you the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and experience within a school environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Assist teachers during lessons and classroom activities.
- Work with pupils individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
- Support children with their confidence, engagement, and independence.
- Help pupils stay focused and participate positively in lessons.
- Observe and report relevant pupil progress to the class teacher.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and well-organised classroom.
- Establish positive and professional relationships with pupils and school staff.
- Provide general classroom assistance where required.
Who Would Suit This Role?

You should have:
- A 2:1 degree or above or be on track to achieve one.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good literacy and numeracy abilities.
- A positive and dependable approach to work.
- The confidence to engage with primary-aged children.
- A willingness to learn from experienced teachers.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a school team.
- A genuine interest in supporting children’s learning and development.
You do not necessarily need previous school experience. Experience through tutoring, mentoring, sports coaching, childcare, youth work, volunteering, or other roles involving children would be useful, but enthusiasm and the right attitude are equally important.
