Ortus Recruitment is seeking a Behaviour Mentor with a sporty background and SEN experience to join a supportive school in Brixton on a full-time basis, with an immediate start available.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in sport, coaching, mentoring, youth work or education who can use their skills to build meaningful relationships with pupils and help them overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will support pupils who may have SEN, SEMH, behavioural, emotional or social needs, using a calm, consistent and positive approach to encourage better engagement, confidence and behaviour.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, behavioural difficulties or other additional needs, alongside a background in football, sports coaching, PE, youth mentoring or similar environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring to pupils with SEN and behavioural, emotional or social needs.
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
Support pupils with SEN, SEMH and challenging behaviour in and outside of the classroom.
Use sport and physical activity as a tool to encourage teamwork, discipline, resilience, confidence and self-esteem.
Support pupils with emotional regulation and help them develop positive strategies for managing their behaviour.
Encourage pupils to engage positively with their education and wider school environment.
Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to provide consistent support.
Adapt activities and communication approaches to meet individual pupil needs.
Help identify barriers to learning and contribute to strategies designed to improve pupil engagement and behaviour.
Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to the wider school team.
Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, patience and resilience.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who is:

Experienced supporting children or young people with SEN.
Confident working with pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and behavioural needs.
From a sporting, coaching, youth work, mentoring or education background.
Confident managing challenging behaviour using positive and consistent strategies.
Energetic, approachable and able to build strong relationships with young people.
Patient, resilient and able to remain calm when dealing with challenging situations.
Passionate about helping young people develop confidence, resilience and positive attitudes.
A strong communicator who can work effectively with pupils, teachers and support staff.
Able to adapt their approach to meet the individual needs of pupils.
Professional, reliable and committed to safeguarding.

Previous experience as a Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Sports Coach, Youth Worker, Pastoral Mentor, Learning Support Assistant or similar role would be highly advantageous.
