About the Role
Ortus Recruitment are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Classroom Assistant to join a primary school in Wimbledon, Merton.
We are looking for someone who has a genuine passion for working with children and enjoys creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
The successful candidate must be happy to work across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 within a primary school setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Class Teacher with planning and preparing daily activities.
- Work 1:1 and with small groups of children to support their learning and development.
- Support children with learning difficulties and challenging behaviour (SEN).
- Help prepare the classroom before lessons and tidy up afterwards.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including photocopying, filing, displaying work, and recording and reporting important information to the Head Teacher and parents.
- Build positive relationships with parents to encourage effective communication and maintain a warm and welcoming environment.
- Promote and support the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, ensuring harmful tools and equipment are kept safely away from pupils.
- Communicate effectively with children, teachers and parents while listening to their individual needs.
- Manage multiple activities and responsibilities while maintaining a high level of attention to the children and classroom environment.
- Take initiative when required, following guidance from the class teacher and being confident to take over the class when the teacher is otherwise occupied.
Requirements
- A genuine commitment to supporting children’s emotional, social and mental wellbeing.
- Experience working with SEN children is essential.
- Ability to build positive relationships with teachers, children and parents.
- A sensitive, patient and dedicated approach when supporting children.
