SEN Teaching Assistant – Small Group Provision
Location: Willesden, NW London
Salary: £100-£105 Daily (PAYE)
Contract: Full-time
Hours: 8:30am – 4pm
Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for an opportunity to make a real difference to children’s learning and development?
We are currently working with a welcoming school who are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support a small group of 4–6 children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) outside of the mainstream classroom setting.
The children are capable and keen to learn, but can find it difficult to maintain attention, regulate their behaviour and remain engaged for extended periods. As a result, they can sometimes become disruptive within a traditional classroom environment. This role will provide a more structured, nurturing and tailored learning environment where pupils can develop both academically and personally.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a small group of pupils, delivering engaging and appropriately differentiated learning activities designed around their individual needs.
You will be responsible for:
- Supporting the academic development and progress of a small group of 4–6 SEN pupils.
- Planning and delivering engaging lessons and activities that are accessible to all learners.
- Creating individualised lesson plans and structured learning programmes.
- Incorporating movement breaks, sensory circuits and regulation activities into the school day to support concentration and engagement.
- Using creative and practical approaches to maintain pupils’ attention and motivation.
- Supporting children to develop their emotional regulation, social skills and independence.
- Managing challenging or disruptive behaviour using positive, consistent and supportive strategies.
- Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Monitoring pupil progress and adapting activities and approaches where necessary.
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs and other professionals to ensure pupils receive consistent support.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children with SEN, either within a school or specialist setting.
- A strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation.
- Experience supporting children who struggle with attention, focus or engagement.
- The ability to plan and deliver creative, engaging and differentiated learning activities.
- An understanding of sensory needs and the benefits of sensory circuits and movement breaks.
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The confidence to work independently and take ownership of a small-group provision.
- A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
Why Join Us?
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN professional who wants to work in a small-group, child-centred environment where they can have a significant impact on pupils’ educational and personal development.
If you are passionate about finding creative ways to engage children, build their confidence and help them succeed, we would love to hear from you.
