Ortus Recruitment is working with a primary school in Kennington that is looking for a committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a Year 2 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
This is a full-time position offering an immediate start. The successful candidate will become an important part of the pupil’s support network, helping them access learning, manage transitions and develop their confidence and independence within the school environment.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm, term time only.
The Role
You will provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day, working closely with the class teacher and wider school team to ensure the pupil receives the appropriate guidance and encouragement.
Your duties will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 assistance throughout the school day
- Supporting the pupil with classroom learning and participation
- Following individual learning plans, routines and personalised timetables
- Helping the pupil manage changes, transitions and different activities
- Encouraging positive communication, independence and social development
- Using appropriate strategies to support attention, engagement and behaviour
- Working alongside teachers, SEN staff and other professionals
- Helping create a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment
- Monitoring progress and communicating relevant observations to the teaching team
About You
The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs and be able to build a trusting, positive relationship with the pupil.
You should have:
- Previous experience supporting children with ASD and/or ADHD
- Experience working in a primary school or similar educational setting
- A sound understanding of SEN and the barriers children may face in accessing education
- The ability to remain calm, patient and consistent
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The flexibility to adapt your approach to the individual child
- A caring and encouraging approach to supporting children’s development
A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification would be beneficial. Additional SEN training or relevant specialist qualifications would also be advantageous.
